Biography
Amy Cheifetz, a California native, has been performing in musical theater, opera, and professional choirs since the age of 10. Her most recent roles were as Sophie De Palma in Terrance McNally’s play Masterclass with Center Stage Playhouse and Antonia in the innovative and well received production of The Hoffman Circus, a circus opera based on Offenbach’s Les Contes d’Hoffmann.
One reviewer stated that Ms. Cheifetz had a “powerful and stirring voice” with “a wonderful dramatic sense and an impressive stage presence.” She has sung Musetta in La Bohème with Amato Opera, and for the past two years has performed with the Metropolitan Opera Guild’s Outreach Program that tours schools throughout the Tristate area.
Internationally, Ms. Cheifetz performed a recital of German and American Art Songs at the Salle Cortot in Paris, France. She has been an apprentice artist with Utah Festival Opera, and currently teaches voice at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York City. Her operatic roles include Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi, Despina in Così fan tutte, Papagena in Die Zauberflöte, and the title role in Gilbert and Sullivan’s Patience.
She has earned degrees in vocal performance from the University of California, Irvine (B. Music) and the University of Washington (M. Music). Amy is a doctoral candidate at the University of Washington in Seattle, where she studied with baritone Julian Patrick. While in Seattle, she was a regional finalist of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Awards, and sang with the Pacific Northwest Chamber Chorus, among others.
Ms. Cheifetz currently lives in New York City, where she studied with Cornelius Reid. |
